How to plan parties and weddings in New Zealand

How to be a good host / hostess

The best parties are those where the guests feel welcome and are enjoying themselves. This creates a great atmosphere and it will be the party or wedding everyone talk about for a long time afterwards.

Here are my 7 best tips for how to be a good host / hostess:

1. The right guests
Make sure that you invite at least some guests with lively personalities, and aviond the troble makers if possible.

2. Communicate the dress code
Make sure everyone knows what the dress code is so noone feels under og over dressed.

3. Have food for everyone
If you server food, make sure you ask all the invited guests if they have any particular food requirements or allargies you should know about.

4. Welcome your guests
Meet all your guests with open arms and make them feel welcome

5. Introduce your guests to each other
If the guests don’t know each other, introduce them and give some information about their profession, hobby or something interesting about them. This way they already have a conversation starter.
Introducing your guests is sepecially important if you see ”clicks” forming, or if someone is left standing alone. Introduce them to someone they have something in common with.
For large dinners and functions it is too much to introduce all the guests to each other. A good technique for these functions you can walk around the tables and introduce the guests one at a time. Make sure you don’t insult anyone with what you say about them.

6. Speak with all the guest
This is important in all kinds of parties, but it is especially important to remember this at weddings. Ofern, the bride and groom have their heads up in the clouds on their weding day and might forget to pay attention to many of the guests.

7. Have fun!
Don’t stress out or nag, just relax and have fun at your party.
